School's Out

£25.00 - £90.00

'School's out' is a self-initiated non-commissioned editorial illustration based on an article in The Guardian newspaper on Friday 15th December 2023.

The article, entitled 'Record number of parents fined last year over term-time holidays' by Richard Adams looks at a report by the Dept. of Education into the number of fines issued for unauthorised school absence of 5 days or more in the UK last year.

The article is only a snapshot of the figures but shows a trend upwards of missed schooling. However the data needs further scrutiny as it suggests that there is inequality on how the fines are given out with Essex the highest and Warrington the lowest with zero.

Do parents value education less than in the past? Does the school curriculum need to be changed so there is less peak demand, and therefore premiums on holidays?
